What is Nicorette Gum?
Nicorette Gum is a nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) used to help smokers quit smoking by reducing their cravings. This gum may also be used for people who wish to simply cut down on the number of cigarettes they smoke, or it can be used for when you are in places where you cannot smoke, i.e. indoors or around children.
How does it work?
The Nicorette Gum provides the body with the nicotine it is craving. When you are trying to quit smoking, your body is still addicted to the nicotine that you have been absorbing from the cigarettes. This gum releases nicotine into the mouth so that it can be easily absorbed and work to relieve your uncomfortable craving symptoms.
Is Nicorette Gum suitable for me?
This product is not suitable for you if you have an allergy to nicotine or any of the ingredients listed in this product. It is also advised that you speak to a doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or in hospital from a heart attack or if you have a stomach ulcer, liver or kidney disease, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, seizures, or if you are taking certain medications.

What are the dangers of chewing Nicorette gum?
As with any product, there are always side effects. In the case of Nicorette Gum, if you experience any of the following symptoms, you should stop taking the gum immediatley and contact a doctor:
- fast heart rate/beat,
- abnormal beating of the heart,
- chest palpitations,
- shortness of breath,
- seizures (fits),
- or allergic reactions (swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat and tongue, itching of the skin, swelling of the skin, ulceration and inflammation of the lining of the mouth, difficulty in breathing and dizziness)
How long should you chew Nicorette gum?
It is recommended that you chew the gum for up to 30 minutes or until the flavour is gone. You can also chew the gum until the urge to smoke has gone or reduced.

How is the medication delivered?

Is Nicorette gum healthy?
While Nicorette gum is a much better alternative to smoking cigarettes, it does come with some potential problems.
- The gum contains butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), which may cause local skin reactions (contact dermatitis) or irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes.
- Each stick of gum contains sorbitol which is a source of fructose. If you have fructose intolerance, this gum may not be suitable for you.
Also, if you overuse the Nicorette gum, you may experience uncomfortable symptoms.
How many cigarettes is 4mg of nicotine gum?
Nicorette gum comes in two strengths. If you smoke 20 cigarettes or more per day, you should use the 4 mg gum as required to relieve cravings.
